Matthew AndersonPresident & CEO, William Osler Health System

Matthew Anderson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of William Osler Health System (Osler). Osler is among the largest community hospital systems in Canada, serving a population of over 1.3 million people living in one of the fastest growing and most culturally diverse regions in the country. Osler is comprised of three hospital sites: Etobicoke General, Brampton Civic, and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health & Wellness (opening in 2015-2016) as well as a number of off-site locations that together provide a comprehensive range of acute, ambulatory and ancillary health care services.

Matt previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). Prior to his role at the LHIN, Matt was Senior Vice-President of Performance and Technology at University Health Network where he led the information, quality management and technology portfolios. He has also served as Chief Information Officer for a number of health care agencies in Ontario.
Through his career Matt has been recognized for his work as a recipient of Canada’s prestigious ‘Top 40 Under 40’ award, the ‘Who’s Who in Healthcare’ award through the Canadian College of Health Service Executives, and named Canada’s CIO of the Year (2006).
Matt serves on a number of provincial committees and is currently Chair, Rotman School of Management Healthcare & Life Sciences Advisory Board and a member of the Expert Advisory Committee on Strengthening Primary Health Care in Ontario among others.

Cynthia CheslerHealthcare Consultant
Cynthia Chesler is a healthcare consultant with expertise in supply chain, business development and project management.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and an Honours Business Administration Degree in Accounting.  Her career involves many senior leadership positions including General Manager of PROcure Healthcare, a shared services organization and Interim Vice President of Corporate Services at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.  Cynthia played an integral role in the Ontario Buys Supply Chain Metrics group.  She sits on the Boards at CMEPP and is Co-Chair of HSCN Board and Past-Chair of Medbuy’s Materiel Management committee. Cynthia is currently teaching the OIPMAC-HSCN Healthcare Certificate in Strategic Sourcing.

Don CummerAccount Executive, Plexxus
Don Cummer is a member of the Plexxus Senior Management Team as Account Executive, responsible for account and customer relationship management with member hospitals. Don joined Shared Healthcare Supply Services in 2003 and has been at Plexxus since its inception in 2006, in a progression of jobs involving Purchasing, Information Technology and Customer Relationship Management.  He has more than 25 years of experience in purchasing, inventory management and supply chain systems in the healthcare and telecommunication sectors.  
Don has been been actively involved in many supply chain transformation projects including Plexxus’ SAP based ITS (Integrated Technology Solution) as well as Contract Management and Supplier eCommerce solutions.  He holds an Honours Bachelor of Art degree in Economics from McMaster University and is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Professionals.  Don is the incoming Co-Chair (Provider) for the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Supply Chain Network.

Ann DolanDirector of Strategic Sourcing, FacilicorpNB
Ann is an experienced healthcare supply chain leader, an executive with over 24 years health procurement experience across shared services and group purchasing sectors.  Ann has a deep understanding and knowledge of public procurement.   She is known for her integrity, dedication and energy she brings to every project.
Ann is action orientated and is successful in achieving positive outcomes.  Ann has a natural ability to bring diverse groups of individuals together and guide them through complex processes in order to obtain their required results.  She never loses sight of the importance of developing strong relationships with clients both internally and externally to organizations.
During her career Ann has held a number of management positions, including Vice President, Strategic Sourcing and Member Services for a National Group Purchasing Organization.  This role had a portfolio of contracts valued over $350 M and a staff of seventeen responsible for all aspects of sourcing and contracting; with a mission to deliver value to Healthcare organizations in Canada.
Currently as Executive Director of Strategic Sourcing at FacilicorpNB, a shared services organization that manages and delivers selected non-clinical services for the New Brunswick health system, Ann is responsible for building and managing a strategic sourcing division from the ground up.  Ann has had a direct impact on achieving $21 M a year in savings for the province’s health system over the past five years as well as developed and implemented a standard approach to strategic sourcing for the entire province.
Ann is currently a Board member of Healthcare Supply Chain Network, a national not for profit organization dedicated to suppliers and providers within Healthcare Supply Chain.  Ann holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of New Brunswick, and is certified as a Supply Chain Management Professional.  Ann is currently enrolled at the Royal Roads University in the graduate certificate program in Executive Leadership Coaching.

Paul Emanuelli, General Counsel and Managing Director, Procurement Law Office
Paul Emanuelli is the General Counsel and Managing Director of the Procurement Law Office. He has been ranked by Who’s Who Legal as one of the ten leading public procurement lawyers in the world and his firm has been selected by Global Law Experts and Corporate INTL as Canada’s top public procurement law firm. Daniel Fabiano, Partner Fasken Martineau
Daniel Fabiano is a corporate/commercial lawyer whose practice emphasizes public sector procurement, technology, information protection and privacy (including health privacy). In his procurement practice, Daniel advises public and private sector organizations in initiating and documenting the bidding process; drafting and negotiating contracts; and managing and mitigating procurement risks. Daniel has a "Certificate in Public Procurement Law and Practice" from Osgoode.

Sarah Friesen, CEO/GM COHPA
Sarah Friesen is CEO and General Manager of the Central Ontario Healthcare Procurement Alliance (COHPA), a Shared Services Organization providing integrated supply chain services to several central Ontario hospitals. In collaboration with the Healthcare Supply Chain Network (HSCN), Sarah developed and delivers the Healthcare Certificate in Strategic Sourcing on behalf of OIPMAC and HSCN. She has over 14 years of experience in the healthcare sector, and brings an additional 20 years of strategic sourcing and supply chain experience from the private sector. Sarah lectures on the changing landscape of healthcare procurement in Ontario at various educational institutions and industry forums.

Lynne Golding leads the national Health Law Group at the law firm of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP.  Out of their Toronto office, she has an active corporate-commercial practice principally in the health industry, which involves transactions dealing with public and private corporations in both regulated and unregulated industries.  Her own practice focuses on corporate law, particularly structuring contractual arrangements between hospitals and private sector service providers and providing governance advice.  Together with other members of Fasken Martineau, she co-authored the Ontario Hospital Association’s Toolkit on the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and advised Healthcare Supply Chain Network on the Common Tendering and Contracting Templates for healthcare organizations including by preparing guides and annotations for their use.



Andrew Haley, Paralympic Gold Medalist
Andrew Haley is a world champion and Paralympic swimmer who now inspires audiences as a talented public speaker. Andrew Haley is a champion at all levels! As a child Andrew had cancer twice and each time was given a 35% chance to pull through. Although he lost part of his right leg, he never lost his fight and despite the long odds he fought and won. He has used that same fight all his life. He is a world class Paralympic swimmer and successful businessman who now works for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Andrew won Nova Scotia’s male Athlete of the Year honours twice and has been his swimming team’s captain. Combining more than 30 years of personal success and failures, he has been able to draw on his vast experiences to relate to any situation. Through his life work, he has inspired countless companies, school kids, individuals and organizations with his WORLD CLASS mind set.
Andrew’s list of World Class performances is impressive. In his career he won a gold medal at the 1994 Games in Victoria, BC and became the first ever disabled athlete in Canada to win a gold medal at this competition. He has also owned the podium at World Championships (1998, 2002) and the Paralympic Games (2000) and did so in World Record time. In addition to the medals, he has set numerous World and Canadian Records along the way.
Andrew also finds time to give back to his community. He is involved in the charity RIGHT TO PLAY and also visits schools in Ontario to talk to students about making better choices when it comes to the environment and to be more active. In addition, he volunteers his time working with Athletes Can, a national group that supports athletes.


Eddy Jin, Procurement Advisory Services
Eddy Jin, the former Director of Procurement Services at the University of Toronto (UofT), has been building strategic transformation for the past 16 years using innovative business approaches. He has implemented leading-edge legal formats such as the Negotiable RFP and led the development of University of Toronto’s award-winning eProcurement solution, UShop. These transformative inroads have changed the face of procurement in higher education and represent a paradigm shift in the value they bring to their community and their current and future initiatives. He was recognized for his innovations in 2012 winning both the Leadership in Public Procurement Award from the Canadian Public Procurement Council and the National Quality and Productivity Award from the Canadian Association of University Business Officers. 
He has been invited to present seminars across a broad range of topics in procurement ranging from tendering, eProcurement, market intelligence, total cost of ownership to innovation procurement.
Eddy has recently joined forces with The Procurement Law Office to deliver implementation and training services on the NRFP and consulting services on strategic procurement through his own consultancy. Eddy is a graduate from the University of Toronto.

Shamsha Kanji, Principle Kanji Consulting 
Shamsha Kanji’s passion is business process re-engineering.  Her consulting work also includes options analysis, supply chain management, procurement & BPS Procurement Directive, workflows & integration and developing strategy & roadmaps.  Shamsha has 17 years of leadership experience, spanning 8 industries.  She began her Lean training at Procter & Gamble in the late 1990’s and has been engaged in Six Sigma since 2000, including Six Sigma training at GE.   Shamsha holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. She is also a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.

Nancy Kennedy, ADM, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care

Nancy Kennedy is the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Health System Strategy and Policy Division, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC).  She began this new position in February 2014. 

Prior to commencing at the MOHLTC, she held several different portfolios within the Cabinet Office Policy Division, including serving as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health, Education, Social and Children’s Policy.  In addition, she has served as a policy Director in several line ministries and central agencies, including the Director of Transit Policy at Ministry of Transportation, the Director of Strategic Policy at Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Director of Provincial-Local Initiatives at Ministry of Finance.  While at Ministry of Finance, she also served as Acting Assistant Deputy Minister of the Provincial-Local Finance Division.

Prior to joining the provincial government in 1998, she worked at the ARA Consulting Group as a Management Consultant within their domestic public sector practice.  Before that, she had her own business as a freelance writer and researcher.  She holds a Master of Arts from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University.

Marian Macdonald, ADM, Ministry of Government Services
Building on her current responsibilities including the management of a multi-million dollar Vendor of Record program, the OntarioBuys program and the procurement policy framework for Ontario's broader public sector, Marian is also responsible for a wide range of supply chain management activities including continuing initiatives to streamline procurement processes and procedures.   Her career in public service includes senior positions in finance, policy, project management and operations.

Bill Mantel, ADM, MInistry of Research and Innovation
Bill Mantel is the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of the Research, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Division serving the Ministry of Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment. In his role as ADM, Bill oversees the delivery of key ministry programs and initiatives focused on supporting Ontario’s research excellence, commercialization networks, and entrepreneurial expertise.
Previously, as Director of the ministry’s Commercialization Branch, Bill was responsible for implementing a wide range of strategies and programs that accelerate growth in Ontario’s knowledge-intensive industries; namely, harnessing and integrating Ontario’s public and private innovation capacity by creating a provincial innovation network that builds on provincial and regional strengths.

From 1999 to 2005, as Director of the Life Sciences and Technology Branch, Bill led the development and implementation of provincial initiatives in the bio-technology and health industries, including medical and assistive technologies. While in this role, he oversaw the establishment of key organizations such as the MaRS Discovery District and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR).
Since joining the Ontario Public Service in 1987, Bill has held a number of progressively responsible positions in Cabinet Office and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs, focused on the development and implementation of key provincial policy and program initiatives. Significant accomplishments include supporting the Red Tape Review Commission, creation of an Ontario private-sector led farm finance policy designed to increase access to risk and operating capital, implementation of the province-wide restructuring of farm property taxation, and growth development of the Agricultural Commodity Corporation as a member of the Board.

Patrick Moriarty, Founder and President of Health Care Relocations 
Pat Moriarty is the founder and president of Health Care Relocations (HCR), one of the few companies worldwide that specialize exclusively in the relocation of health care facilities.  Founded in 1993, HCR has completed more than 300 hospital moves. The company head office resides in Peterborough, Ontario supported by office locations in British Columbia, Pennsylvania USA and Australia.  Pat earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Politics from Trent University in Peterborough. 


Frank O'Dea, Entrepreneur and Founder of Second Cup
Frank O’Dea is a brilliant keynote, both inspirational and motivational for audiences from all walks of life. Frank’s life went off the rails in his early teens. Within a few years, he was living in 50-cent-a-night flop-houses in Toronto’s bowery district where simply surviving was a challenge. Against all odds, at the age of 23, with the courage to hope for a better life, and the spirit to forge ahead, Frank began the long road back. Fighting the formidable obstacles that hold back the homeless, the impoverished and the destitute, he overcame and rejoined society.
Then, as if that were not enough, he turned that same determination to the many obstacles in life that we all face. Within a few short years, he co-founded The Second Cup, which soon became the largest chain of gourmet coffees and teas in the country. Building on that success, he went on to co-found Proshred Security, a company that pioneered the entire industry of on-site document destruction. This company soon became an international organization with franchised operations in Canada, Europe and the United States.
Early on, Frank took steps to give back to the community. He began by serving on the boards of directors of charities and not-for-profit organizations. But the entrepreneur’s desire to innovate and build was not to be denied. In 1985 he co-founded Street Kids International, an organization developed to help homeless children in third world countries, through education and self-reliance programs. A few years later, he became the founding Chair of War Child (Canada), an organization that provides assistance against suffering and abuse of children in war affected countries. In the same year, Frank co-founded the Canadian Landmine Foundation, an organization that raises funds for the dismantling of minefields around the world. He went on to initiate that organization’s most successful fund raising program, Night of a Thousand Dinners, with participation of people in 29 countries, raising millions of dollars.
With his quiet passion, he is low key and down to earth, using anecdotes ranging from his days on the street and the start-up of The Second Cup to a happenstance meeting that gave rise to Street Kids International. Because he talks about ordinary things his audience can easily identify with him and his message. In fact, by the end of his talk, his audiences invariably feel moved, empowered, and full of hope for themselves.

Nicole Ruttan-SimsDirector of Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain Mohawk Shared Services Inc.

John Soloninka has over 24 years of experience in medical technology consulting and company formation, growth and management. He graduated from Queen's University in engineering physics in 1981 and worked several years in aerospace engineering before earning an MBA, with distinction, from the University of London in England in 1986. Over his career, he has led major projects in health system transformation, biopharma/device development and regulation, health IT, disease management, clinical trials, clinical genomics and venture capital for Price Waterhouse, Soloninka and Associates and IBM. Mr. Soloninka was a founder, senior executive and leader in startup companies in oncology, radiology and electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical trials that were variously sold to US firms Varian Medical Systems, Merge Technologies and Assistmed.
He came to HTX from his role as Healthcare Practice Lead for IBM Global Business Services in Ontario. He was appointed President and CEO of HTX in July 2010 and is currently a director and advisory board member of CIMTEC (the Centre for Imaging Technology and Commercialization), the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI), HTX, EXCITE, CHWP (Connected Health and Wellness Project), DFATD Life Sciences, Baycrest Centre and Baycrest Research Advisory Committee (RAC).

Samantha Zarzuela, Clinical Specialist, Supply Chain Mohawk Shared Services Inc.

Vince Morelli, HSCN Co-Chair, Supplier; Lead, Finance Committee, Canadian Hospital Specialties
Since April 2014 Vince been Director, MED-RX® Brand Development, with CHS, a national specialty distributor of medical and surgical products focused on strategic partnerships to enhance the experience of their customers. 
Previously, Vince was the General Manager for Invacare Canada, a manufacturer and distributor of mobility equipment and home care products whose Canadian head office is based in Mississauga, ON.
Vince began his career in healthcare in 1989 taking on a tax and treasury role with Baxter Corporation. Moving into Marketing in 1997 with the newly formed Source Medical, he subsequently took on various roles in sales and marketing, business development and national account management with Allegiance Healthcare, acquired by Cardinal Health in 1999.

Vince holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Toronto.

Susan Smith, HSCN General Manager
Susan came to HSCN as a senior executive with proven leadership, strategic marketing, organizational development and general management experience from an extensive background in healthcare. Before joining HSCN, Susan spent more than 30 years in senior positions in both clinical and non-clinical areas of the hospital before accepting the role of General Manager of one of Ontario's largest SSO's. Susan's experience supports an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the critical influence of supply chain within the healthcare system.
Susan's background as a Registered Nurse in addition to her Master in Health Sciences Administration and a Master Certificate in Supply Chain Management and Logistics brings the added benefit of a clinical perspective to supply chain business services. Her career has been dedicated to ensuring that patient care needs remain the central focus within the complexities of today's healthcare system.
In her role as General Manager, Susan especially enjoys working with healthcare suppliers and providers who are passionate in their belief in the value that supply chain brings to benefit the health care industry and the consumers that we serve.
